WEDNESDAY, April 27 (US News) — The prehistoric-looking armadillo, already the state animal of Texas, now has a new claim to fame: leprosy.
A new study finds that armadillos carry the bacterium that causes leprosy, and have somehow passed the disease to several dozen humans in the southern United States.
“We’ve confirmed a long-suspected link between leprosy in humans and armadillos,” said the study’s lead author, Richard Truman, from the Bureau of Primary Health Care at the Health Resources and Services Administration’s National Hansen’s Disease Program at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. I’ve always been a fan of 7L’s beats, which I put right up there with DJ Premier and the Alchemist. His Bladerunners edit project is really dope too. I met him in person a couple of years ago at SXSW and I tried not to geek out too hard on him; since then we’ve played together a bunch of times both on his turf in Boston and at The Rub in Brooklyn. He’s a serious veteran DJ and does all kinds of gigs. This heavy warmup set was recorded at a hotel gig a couple of months ago, and I’ve probably listened to it 100 times since he gave it to me. Hope yall enjoy! And be sure to check him out at www.dj7l.com
I did all these edits for the Moombahton Massive 3 party in DC, so I would have something different to play. Big shout out to Munchi, Dave Nada, Skinny Friedman and Nick Chacona, and of course all the original artists.

This Thursday is Moombahton Massive 3. All proceeds go to help Munchi pay for his hospital bills, after a spontaneous seizure and coma in Hawaii. We’ve raised a solid amount of money already but nowhere near what it will cost to pay for all the bills, and this is important for Munchi to be able to travel freely back and forth to the US and DJ on the books with a work permit. (Besides being the right thing to do).
I spoke with Munchi on the phone last week and his doctor in Rotterdam told him he can begin to DJ and produce music again soon. He says he’s been resting up and he’s excited about working again. His headaches are much fewer and farther between and he’s feeling a lot better than he was – less dizziness & memory issues, more clear-headed and normal.
Even if you can’t make it to Moombahton Massive 3, you can still donate money directly to Munchi’s hospital fund right here.
ALSO:
I’ve been in the studio feverishly working on edits to play at the Massive. I have a bunch of finished stuff to debut on Thursday and I don’t want to give away too many surprises but while we’re on the topic of Munchi, I wanted to share this one as a little sneak preview. It’s simple but very playable.
What’s the best aspects of being a professional DJ?
I am happiest when I’m playing at a big party and it’s going off, and I feel like I can play my favorite records and the crowd is with it. So there’s that, everything else is secondary to that feeling. Otherwise I love finding new music, making mixes, edits, tracks, all that stuff. I like having friends all over the place and getting to visit folks when I’m in their city, getting to host them at The Rub. And then gigs like touring with Ghostface, Bun B, Smalltown DJs, Tittsworth, A-Trak, that’s always fun and inspiring. It’s an amazing lifestyle. I’m really not the type of person who enjoys having a boss or feeling limited by an overly structured work situation, so it suits me.
Police in Maryland are hunting for an April Fools’ joker who left a helpless man glued to a bathroom toilet in a suburban Wal-Mart store.
Cops found the 48-year-old victim stuck to a toilet seat at a store in Elkton, Md., around 7 p.m. on March 31 after workers heard him screaming for help, cops said.
