This is re-up of a Michael Jackson mix from 2008, a year before his death. Back then I wrote:

“I was bitten by the nostalgia bug a few weeks ago listening to an old Jackson 5 record and got kind of carried away, so I did a mix of Michael Jackson joints for Rub Radio. I started in 1970 with the Jackson 5 and went all the way up through 2001, not always mixing because I wanted to go in chronological order. I skipped over some of the more obvious songs (ABC, I Want You Back, Billie Jean, PYT) – if anybody is dying to hear those, please come see me DJ in real life. I hope this mix brings up as many happy memories and good feelings for you when you listen to it as it did for me making it.”

DJ Ayres & JD – Houston Tape by Dj Ayres on Mixcloud

JD and I recorded this tape at the height of the Houston rap invasion (2004/2005), when the biggest songs on the radio all over the US were Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Mike Jones and Chamillionaire. We looked back at the history of Houston rap (and a little Port Arthur), digging into JD’s deep crates and selecting the absolute best jams. Matt Sonzala and Roxy Cottontail hosted a big Houston rap show during CMJ that year, where we got access to a bunch of the rappers for drops. RIP H.A.W.K.

Ghostface: Chamber Music (Mixed by DJ Ayres & DJ Soul)on Mixcloud

This was made in 2006, a few years before I got to go on tour with Ghostface Killah for Scion (shout to Rhythm Roots Allstars). Huge shout to DJ Soul, whose work ethic and attention to detail is unparalleled. (Also he’s a ripper).
